Quiz game with friends

An online quiz game to play with friends.

Send one link, everyone joins from their own phone or laptop, and nobody needs to know the exact answer to have a chance.

Everyone plays on their own screen

Approx runs in the browser on phones, tablets and computers. There is nothing to install and no screen to share: each player answers on their own device, so it works just as well around one table as across different cities.

Friends can join as guests without an email address. Approx is for players aged 16 and over.

Set up a private game in a minute

A private game has room for 2 to 10 players. Pick the categories and difficulties your group enjoys, choose how many rounds to play and how long each question lasts, and add bots if you want a fuller table.

  1. Create a custom game and keep it private.
  2. Send the invitation link to your friends.
  3. Wait until everyone is ready, then start the first question.

Why ranges make a fairer quiz

Each question has a numerical answer, and you reply with a lower and an upper bound. A narrow range that contains the answer beats a wide one; a range that misses scores nothing.

So the friend who knows the exact year and the friend who is only roughly sure both have a move to make, and every round stays open until the reveal.

Talk while you play

Approx has no in-game chat, so groups that are apart usually play over a video or voice call. The reveal after each round, when everyone sees who was closest, is the moment that gets people talking.
